Suggested 9-day itinerary in Japan

We will have a series of blog on our trip to Japan last October with detailed schedule of each city we visited but here’s our suggested general itinerary that really works for first time travelers.

Day 1 – Day 4: Tokyo

  • Day 1: Western Tokyo (Shinjuku, Harajuku, Meiji Shrine, Shibuya)
  • Day 2: Northern Tokyo (Edo-Tokyo Museum, Ueno Park, Akihabara, Asakusa, Sensoji Temple)
  • Day 3: Central Tokyo cont. (Tokyo Station, Imperial Palace, Chiyoda, Marunouchi, Ginza)
  • Day 4: Southern Tokyo (Tsukiji Fish Market, Odaiba, Roppongi)

Day 5: Depart Tokyo by highway bus to Mount Fuji area

  • Morning: Kawaguchiko (Lake Kawaguchiko, Kachi Kachi Ropeway)
  • Afternoon: Hakone (Owakudani Volcano, Lake Ashi)
  • Night: Hakone-Yumoto (Onsen)

Day 6: Depart Hakone and travel to Osaka by shinkansen

  • Morning: Museum of housing and living, Tenjinbashi-suji Shopping Street
  • Afternoon: Osaka Castle
  • Night: Namba (Dotonburi, Shinsaibashi Shopping Arcade, Tomburi River Cruise)

Day 7 – Day 8: Kyoto

  • Day 7: Arashiyama (Bamboo Grove, Tenryuji Temple, Nonomiya Shrine), Ginkaku-ji, Northern Kyoto (Gion, Nishiki Market, Manga Museum)
  • Day 8: Fushimi Inari, Higashiyama District, Yasaka Shrine, Kiyozumidera

Day 9: Go home from Kansai International Airport in Osaka
